Woodeumgee Farm
"We are proud to provide healthy vegetables all year round and to be an example for Korean growers"
Woodeumgee Farm, a leading agricultural company in South Korea, is the largest high-tech tomato greenhouse in Chungcheong Province. With an area of 6 hectares (two blocks of 3 hectares) it is South Korea’s first large-scale semi-closed greenhouse.
Our Next Generation iSii process computer controls the climate-, irrigation- and energy processes in the greenhouses. The NG iSii controls eg. high pressure misting installation, air recirculation and the circular irrigation system. There are also semi-closed controls applied to create an optimal climate by recirculation of CO2 and energy. This enables Woodeumgee Farm, a customer of Hoogendoorn Growth Management since 2019, to produce all year round in a sustainable way while maintaining the quality of their tomatoes. At the beginning in 2020 the first tomatoes were sown in January and harvested for the first time in April that year.
Creating a wide range of sales routes
“Woodeumgee Farm has taken the lead in establishing a partnership with several tomato producers. Currently, 130 organizations are participating. This gives everyone a wide range of sales routes. Woodeumgee’s tomatoes are found in supermarkets all over South Korea”, says Hoyeon Kim, Chairman of the Agricultural Company Corporation.
This high-tech greenhouse is co-sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the sponsoring has helped to strengthen the competitiveness of Korean farmers, from production to distribution.
One of the goals of this collaboration is to turn areas where crops cannot grow due to excessively high temperatures into a more suitable climate, so that cultivation becomes possible. This is important in order to be able to provide continual supply of healthy vegetables to consumers. With the help of the Next Generation iSii it is even possible to increase production.
An example for Korean growers
Hoyeon Kim adds; “If you visit the Woodeumgee Agricultural Corporation you will see cherry tomatoes that are grown inside data-driven greenhouses. This is a place where you can see the development of Korea’s agricultural technology at a glance. We are proud to provide healthy vegetables all year round and to be an example for Korean growers”
What you can achieve by working together
The greenhouse in South Korea is really an example of how you can achieve much more by working together. Wierd Vonk, General Manager Asia at Hoogendoorn Growth Management, adds; “Woodeumgee Farm is the first large scale semi-closed production greenhouse in South Korea, which is locally manufactured with the help of foreign suppliers. Our partner company AgriCNS and Hoogendoorn’s engineers have provided full support to optimize all greenhouse climate, irrigation and energy controls. Hoogendoorn is very proud to join Woodeumgee Farm’s project and to contribute to healthy and more sustainable vegetable production in South Korea.”
