Daisy van Veldhoven - Learning & Development Specialist

"I'm learning new things every day!"

Before joining Hoogendoorn, I first studied Teacher Education for Primary schools, and then a master's in educational sciences. During my master's internship, I was introduced to education in companies. I liked this more than standing in front of the classroom, therefore I started looking for an educational job in the business world. That's how I came across the vacancy for 'E-learning Specialist' at Hoogendoorn. I grew up among the greenhouses so it seemed like a great opportunity to be able to contribute to improving horticulture in this way. Recently, I was given a new title within Hoogendoorn: Learning & Development Specialist. Now I am not only responsible for e-learning, but 'learning' in general: how do we share our knowledge and train customers, partners and new colleagues the best way we can.

What I like most about my job is the contact with different colleagues (also from the offices in other countries) and constantly learning about other horticulture-related topics. I learn new things almost every day. I also appreciate the variety in my work. For instance, I am co-responsible for writing the release notes, I collect and process the text for the e-learnings, but I also think about how we can share our knowledge with customers, partners and colleagues, and how we can provide these different target groups with the right training.

There is no heavy-handed hierarchy within Hoogendoorn, which is very nice. Everyone respects each other and deals with each other in a positive way. Everyone walks in on each other, not just work-related but also for a chat.

The contact with my colleagues is good, I regularly have a chat with them and during the break we go for a walk. Outside working hours, I sometimes bump into colleagues because we hang out with the same people or live near each other.

I am most proud of my work when clients, partners or colleagues let me know how happy they are with an e-learning or other content such as the release notes. This can be in person, but also in the evaluation at the end of the e-learning. Because in the end, that's what I do it for, to help them move forward.
