With nature and technology in their DNA, Hoogendoorn Growth Management is proud to announce to be sponsor of the Netherlands Pavilion during the Expo 2020 Dubai. They believe that the Expo 2020 Dubai redefines the world of healthy food production, during an unique exhibition in which innovation, technology and plant-focused art are being centralized. Hoogendoorn is ready to show the world the data-driven and sustainable future of horticulture.
The moment is almost there, at October 1st the Expo 2020 Dubai will be opened and the Dutch Biotope in the most spectacular way revealed. In a unique six months, the Dubai Expo 2020 will be all about Connecting Minds, Creating the future. In specific, the heart of the Netherlands Pavilion symbolizes uniting water, energy and food. This core value is fully in line with Hoogendoorn’s vision to deliver the most sustainable and innovative process automation solutions to feed the world’s growing population. Similar to Dutch Dubai, Hoogendoorn has the continuous drive to contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals which are the pathway to a new century. A new century where eyes are opened to make different choices on how to deal with scarce resources. In the horticulture of the future, just-in-time deployment of resources is essential, totally based on objective feedback from the crop. These unique living organisms are very capable of indicating what resources they need at any given moment in time.
To demonstrate this feedback mechanism of the crop, Hoogendoorn Growth Management sponsors the essential IIVO process computer, sensors and smart cameras for the Biotope. The Biotope, also referred to as ‘The Cone’ is an imposing structure in the shape of a cone in the middle of the Netherlands Pavilion, where different types of lettuce are grown on the outside and a variety of mushrooms on the inside in a precisely controlled environment. From the other side of the world, one can analyze the real-time situation in the Biotope. Moreover, through the camera images, the thousands of edible lettuce plants in the various growth stages are visible. In addition, the climate conditions in the Biotope are continuously recorded for the edible lettuce production. All data collected with Hoogendoorn’s industry standard hardware, is connected to the IIVO process computer. On top of that, IIVO is fully based on plant physiological knowledge and the most advanced techniques. Techniques in which the connection is made between Artificial Intelligence and Expert Intelligence, for the purpose of production increase qualitatively and quantitatively.
Martin Helmich, CCO of Hoogendoorn Growth Management states: “Hoogendoorn believes it is important to share their Expert Intelligence with the visitors of Expo Dubai 2020. Knowledge transfer is in fact the pillar on which we can connect people to step into a new sustainable future. During special Hoogendoorn Events, which are organized in the Netherlands Pavilion, everything will revolve around inspiration, cooperation and knowledge exchange. In synergy with the entire chain, we can make an important contribution to the sustainability proposition for the entire world”.
Until the 31st of March in 2022, international visitors will be able to visit this delicate eco-system. Visitors are welcomed to discover and marvel this unique world full of smart and sustainable Dutch technical solutions. With all these techniques Dutch Dubai is ready to grow.
